The Nelly Berman School of Music is excited to announce that our Celebration of the Arts Music Competition is returning this year! We look forward to many of our students joining us in celebrating the arts during the COVID pandemic in this unique event!

One of the primary goals of our competition is education through allowing students to uncover their natural talents in music, learn new repertoire, polish it to a high level, learn to manage time, practice productively, develop poise under pressure, and cultivate a unique creative voice.

Participating students will receive comments from judges and will be featured in one of our exciting, virtual multimedia concerts: Platinum winners will be featured in our Gala Concert on Saturday, April 3rd, at 6PM and Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners will be featured in our winners’ concerts on Saturday, April 10th, at 12PM and 6PM. All participants will have the chance to have their musical piece paired with a piece of art submitted by a local art student, teacher, or professional artist for a unique multimedia experience! The Gala Concert will also include ballet videos submitted by the International Ballet Theater Academy – as well as some other exciting footage from NBS alumni!

Competition Dates:

The deadline for online applications is 8:00pm on Friday, February 5th, and video submissions will be due by 8:00pm on Friday, March 5th! You do not need to know the name of your piece when you register, you will have until the video submission deadline, to decide and record a piece of your choice!

All Nelly Berman School of Music students ages 6-18, in piano, harpsichord, strings, winds, brass, guitar, voice, duets (four-hand & two piano), and chamber groups/ensembles who were nominated by their teachers to compete are eligible to enter this competition. Students may enter more than one instrumental division.

For more information about our application and submission procedures, winners’ concerts, and prize divisions please visit our “Celebration of the Arts” Music Competition event page.

All proceeds from this festival will benefit the NBSCMI, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing scholarships to deserving and hard-working young musicians, as well as presenting concerts, workshops, masterclasses, and events to the greater Philadelphia area.
