This past February, the Nelly Berman School of Music held one of its most successful annual faculty concerts on record. Thanks to the enormous support of our school community, including our wonderful board members, and local restaurants and businesses, our faculty played to a sold-out concert hall and families were able to mingle while partaking in our massive buffet-style food reception.

Nelly Berman School of Music faculty members Irina Schuck (violin), Ellilot Mallard (cello), and Anna Kislitsyna (piano) perform the first movement, Verano Porteno (Buenos Aires Summer) from Piazzolla’s Cuatro Estaciones Portenas (Four Seasons of Buenos Aires).

The concert featured performances by Philadelphia Orchestra violinist Paul Arnold, principal trumpet of the Miami Symphony Orchestra Andres Gonzalez, internationally renowned pianists and pedagogues Dr. Igor Resnianski, Dr. Anna Kislitsyna, Dr. Marianna Prjevalskaya, and Ronaldo Rolim, and crowd favorites Dima Borisovksy, one of the longest-tenured piano teachers at the school, and his wife and school accompanist Olga Borisovsky, as well as many other talented faculty members.

This year’s concert was made even more special by John Brodsky’s donation of the use of his handmade and hand-painted harpsichord, which was featured in a number of performances during the faculty recital and will reside at the St. Luke United Methodist Church’s Lurwick Hall for the foreseeable future.

The evening’s program.

A huge thank you to our committed board members, especially board president Dr. Elizabeth Wang-Hsu and board member Janene Mont Louis, who really stepped up and helped organize and document the event, and Monina Florendo and her husband, who were indispensable in setting up the hall. Board member Brian Satterfield brought delicious food from Main Line favorite Margaret Kuo’s, and board members Lauren Hirsch, Paul Matuch, and Thomas Alberici invited family and friends to share in our school’s favorite event! We’d also like to thank our parent volunteers, Kia Mellon and Emily Snell, who manned the at-the-door ticket sales and welcomed our concertgoers, and all of our other volunteers who donated food, chairs, and time to make the concert a success.

Nelly Berman School of Music piano faculty member Dima Borisovsky performs “The Hut on Hen’s Legs” (“Baba Yaga”) and “The Bogatyr Gates” (“In the Capital in Kiev” with his wife, Olga Borisovsky, and their son, Ron Borisovsky.

And finally, thank you to all of our food donors (listed in order that we received the donation approval): Sang Kee Asian Bistro (Wynnewood), Vic’s Sushi Rosemont, Maido! Marketplace of Japan (Ardmore), Nana’s Kitchen (Narberth), Mama Wong (Exton), Zesto Pizza & Grill (Bryn Mawr), The Ultimate Bake Shoppe (Bryn Mawr), The Bakery House (Ardmore), Murray’s Deli (Bala Cynwyd), Trader Joes (Ardmore), HipCityVeg (Radnor), Di Bruno Brothers (Ardmore), and Wegmans (King of Prussia).
