NBS Performances
Students at the Nelly Berman School of Music are encouraged to perform in front of an audience to display their progress and abilities to the public. Public performance can be a transformative experience for students where they can bring their daily work to life for a live audience.
NBS offers performance classes weekly throughout the year on Saturday afternoons. These informal performances in the NBS recital room are meant to encourage students to develop the goal of practicing with more focus and diligence while they are learning a piece.
In addition to the weekly Saturday performances, we welcome our students to participate in our ‘Rising Stars’ student concert series, occurring twice annually in December and June. These concerts take place in a large 200-seat auditorium at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Bryn Mawr. We encourage our students to participate in two performance classes so that they can prepare for performing on the big stage in a more formal setting.
Competitions
Many of our students choose to enter music competitions at the local, regional, national, and international levels. Competitions push students to strive for the highest level of achievement they are capable of. Many competitions offer the ability to perform for highly acclaimed judges and live audiences, as well as awards for top competitors such as scholarships, cash prizes, and entry into more prestigious competitions. Below you will find a list of, and links to, many competitions in which NBS students have had recent success. Please do not hesitate to contact the office for more information on how to participate in one of these great events.
