Alyssa Gabrilovich (junior piano) won the 2019-2020 Eastern Sectionals of the Music Teacher’s National Association Performance Competition, the biggest nationwide music competition for secondary school, college, and post-collegiate level musicians. She was invited to the finals, originally to be held in Chicago in March 2020. She also received Honorable Mention at the Princeton Festival’s Piano Competition in the open class. Alyssa is taught by Dr. Igor Resnianski.
Congratulations to Chris Jung (senior piano) and Emma Lo (senior piano) as well, who both were awarded Honorable Mention at the state level of the 2019-2020 Music Teacher’s National Association Performance Competition. Congratulations to Chris Jung as well on his acceptance to Northwestern University, where he plans to double major in music and mechanical engineering! Both Chris and Emma study with Dr. Igor Resnianski.
Congratulations to Torsten Fras, who was awarded Honorable Mention in Keyboard & Plucked Instruments – High School Division at the Boulder Bach Festival’s World Bach Competition. Torsten studies harpsichord with Dr. Anna Kislitsyna.
Congratulations to Michael Zhou, who won 1st Prize at the VII Rome International Music Competition, 1st Prize at the I Brussels International Music Competition, and Honorable Mention at the V Padereskwi International Piano Competition, both of which were held online.
Michael Zhou was also one of the winners of Episcopal Academy’s Dora Khayatt Competition in Spring 2020! Michael performed Scriabin’s Fantasie No. 1 Op. 28 in B minor. He is a student of Dr. Anna Kislitsyna.
Congratulations to Sophia Cui and Joyce Chen, who were awarded Gold with Distinction (meaning they were within 3 points of the winner) at South Jersey Music Teachers’ Association’s Technique Competition & Theory Test. Sophia and Joyce are taught by Dr. Ariane Alexander.
Congratulations to our other graduating seniors – Harry Chen, who studied piano with Dr. Katarzyna Marzec-Salwinski, started at New York University, and Sean Seibel, who studied cello with Elliot Mallard, started at Northeastern University this fall.
